SOUTH MIAMI K-8 CENTER’S MUSIC MAGNET HAS MUCH TO CELEBRATE

Three students from South Miami K-8 Center were among the group of Florida students selected to participate in the Florida Music Educators Association Elementary All-State Choir last month.

The students, Enzo Araya and Nicholas Rodriguez, both fifth graders, and Isabella Figueroa, fourth grade, were chosen after a very competitive audition process, in which each school was only allowed to submit five student auditions. Once selected, the trio prepared all winter break and then went on a three-day field trip to perform in Tampa. They joined the 200-member children's chorus that represented the best fourth- and fifth-grade singers in the state.

Additionally, Vivian Gonzalez, the South Miami K-8 Center’s magnet music teacher was recognized as a semi-finalist for the 2015 Grammy Music Educator Award. As a result, South Miami K-8 Center received a $4,000 donation from Ford Drive 4 Ur School, an award created by the Ford Foundation, Ryan Seacrest and the Grammy Foundation to recognize and support great music educators from across the nation.
