M-DCPS, FOP REACH TENTATIVE LABOR AGREEMENT

Miami-Dade County Public Schools has reached a tentative agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), covering the work of Miami-Dade Schools Police personnel.

“Through respectful and dynamic negotiations, we reached an agreement that accomplishes both salary equity and protection of this very essential workforce,” said Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • A salary enhancement consisting of a step increase; half the value of the increase will be effective upon ratification; the balance will be paid on the first paycheck in July.
  • The bargaining unit members will absorb the increase in health insurance costs.
  • Contract language clarification provides that personnel must report to work for 260 days during the yearlong probationary period.

School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman was present as the agreement was reached and announced that she would bring a good cause item for approval of the contract to the April 15th monthly School Board meeting.

The contract must be ratified by FOP members, then go to the Miami-Dade School Board for approval.   When this contract is ratified and approved, contracts will have been adopted for all M-DCPS employees covered by collective bargaining agreements.
