MIAMI SOUTHRIDGE HIGH KICKS OFF $6.6M GO BOND PROJECT

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, District 7 School Board Member Lubby Navarro, School Board Vice Chair Dr. Lawrence Feldman, Principal Bianca Calzadilla and District representatives gathered at Miami Southridge Senior High School this morning to kick off its General Obligation Bond (GOB) construction project. The GOB program provides a total project allocation of $6,605,239.

Slated to be completed at the end of 2016, Southridge High’s planned renovations includes site improvements, as well as extensive building renovations, such as HVAC system replacement, electrical, security system and fire alarm upgrades, ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements and painting.

The School Board commissioned Rodriguez Architects, Inc., as the architect of record for the project. The firm, which is female-owned and certified by the District as both M/WBE and SBE, has committed to a SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation goal of 10 percent. D. Stephenson Construction, Inc., an African-American-owned business and M/WBE, was commissioned as project contractor. The company has committed to a countywide Construction Local Workforce Utilization Goal of 20 percent.

Southridge High School originally opened its doors in the early 1970s and over the years was expanded and received select building system upgrades.
