Carvalho, School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman, District 1 School Board Member Dr. Wilbert "Tee" Holloway, Principal Joyce Jones and District representatives gathered at Oak Grove Elementary School this morning to kick off its $4,942,190 General Obligation Bond (GOB) construction project.

Oak Grove is slated to be completed in the fall of 2016. The school’s project scope includes a new P.E. shelter, site improvements such as parking and a covered walkway, and extensive building renovations, including window and door replacement, HVAC system replacement, electrical, security system and fire alarm upgrades, ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements and painting.

The School Board commissioned the architectural firm of M.C. Harry & Associates, Inc. The firm has committed to a SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation of 20 percent. D. Stephenson Construction, Inc., an African-American-owned business and M/WBE, was commissioned as project contractor. The company has committed to a countywide Construction Local Workforce Utilization Goal of 20 percent.

Oak Grove Elementary originally opened its doors in the late 1950s and over the years was expanded and received select building system upgrades.
