12 M-DCPS GRADUATES RECEIVE $300,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS FROM SOUTH FLORIDA EDUCATIONAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION (SFEFCU)

 South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union (SFEFCU) is helping 12 graduates from Miami-Dade County Public Schools fulfill their college dreams by awarding them $300,000 in college scholarships. The students were recognized at the Credit Union’s 20th Annual Hubert O. Sibley Scholarship Ceremony held May 21.

The scholarships awarded entail fully paid college tuition for the next four years through the Florida Prepaid University Plan. “As an educational financial institution, we take pride in helping Miami-Dade students achieve their goals. It is a great feeling to be able to help fund their college efforts,” said Michael Di Benedetto, President and CEO of the South Florida Educational (FCU).
 
The winners were: Latela Blue, William H. Turner Technical Arts; Javier Cobas, Coral Gables Senior; Kiana Corley, Miami Northwestern; Brenda Davis, South Dade Senior; Brenda Davis, South Dade Senior; Sabrina Fonseca, Hialeah Gardens Senior; Yanely García, G. Holmes Braddock Senior; Kaycee Hodges, TERRA Environmental Research Institute; James Melvin, South Dade Senior; Robert Ortiz, TERRA Environmental Research Institute; Claudia Pérez-Brito, Coral Reef Senior; Richard Santos, North Miami Senior; and Troy Tello, from Felix Varela Senior high schools.

Since the program began in 1995, the Credit Union has recognized 293 students and awarded close to $3 million in scholarships. To become eligible for the tuition scholarship program, high school seniors or their parent or legal guardian must have had an active Credit Union account for at least one year prior to the application deadline.
