MIAMI LOCAL ARTISTS VOLUNTEER IN BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT AT CAROL CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL

What do our kids see as they walk home to school? What are the inspirations for Miami Gardens’ youth and how can our community support them? These are the questions that volunteers will be asking themselves when they begin a beautification project next Monday, June 8, to paint murals on the walls of Carol City Middle School.

The beautification project will reunite some of the most legendary local street artists to paint murals to instill pride in the students and community at large. The artists will paint the school’s main entrance and the auditorium’s 13-foot wide by 25-foot long walls. The project may take a month to complete. Carol City Middle is located at 3737 N.W. 188th Street in Miami Gardens.

"When asked to take part in improving the lives of children, there is only one morally acceptable answer. The need is there and there is no more worthwhile cause than improving children's lives because after all we are simply investing in our future," says Hec1, an abstract painter known for his large-scale works with a street aesthetic.

Hec1 co-curates the project with Wilson Art, a new media artist with an unquenchable thirst for experiments. The artists’ line-up also includes Jai Artistry, Atomiko, Registered Artist, Ivan Roque, Nate Dee, Aquarela Sabol, among several others.

“Our students are in need of arts exposure and positivity in their lives. Beautifying our campus would continue to build a sense of pride in their school and would expose them to art as a form of expression and a way of life,” says Sonia Romero, principal of Carol City Middle School, which serves around 450 students in the Miami Gardens area.

Sponsors and donations are needed to help cover costs associated with the beautification committee efforts as listed in the Carol City Middle School’s “Go Fund Me” account (http://www.gofundme.com/uktez8). All donors and volunteers will be invited to the unveiling event of the week August 31.  Miami Dade College, City Year and St. Thomas University are also supporters of the project.
