MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS OFFERS STUDENTS
A RAINBOW OF CHOICES THIS SUMMER

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will offer children a wide variety of educational choices this summer, including Summer Camps, 24/7 Learning, and targeted educational services.

Summer Camp Programs

M-DCPS Summer Camp programs provide students planned activities in a variety of educational and enrichment experiences including computer technology, arts and crafts, music, ceramics, chess, drama, sports recreation, academic field trips and tutorials. Students may choose from more than 77 different Summer Camp programs that are located at designated elementary, K-8 and middle schools. Full and half-day programs are available. Summer Camps start as early as June 8 and some extend until August 21. Dates and times may vary from one location to the next so parents need to clarify with the site they choose when registering their children.

Information about the fee-based summer camp programs may be found at http://sacc.dadeschools.net/SummerCamps/retrieve_summer_school.asp, or at the office of Community Education Programs at 305 817-0014.

Breakfast and Lunch are free to all participants. Program cost is $100 for full-day programs and $60 for half-day programs. Reduced fees, for those students who qualify, may be provided through the Early Leaning Coalition (ELC). ELC applications are available at www.ELCmdm.org or by calling (305) 646-7220. M-DCPS also provides reduced fees to those students who qualify for free or reduced lunch status.

24/7 Learning

Additionally, for the fourth year in a row, Miami-Dade will provide links to online applications, tools, and games that students can access 24/7 via the Student Portal. These resources will allow students in grades K-12 to practice and apply what they learned during the school year and to explore new concepts. Content will include district-licensed applications, as well as new resources made available exclusively for summer 2015.

Targeted Educational Services

Targeted educational services are planned at selected school sites during the summer session, which is scheduled for July 6 – July 31, 2015.

Grade 3
These services are designed to assist selected students in meeting academic grade level requirements. Students who have been retained in Grade 3 will be offered Reading Comprehension & Literacy skills as well as Alternative Assessment for Grade 3 promotion. Rising Grade 3 students listed on the 2015 Summer Services Eligibility Roster of Rising Grade 3 students will be offered Reading Comprehension & Literacy skills. Both Grade 3 programs run from 8:35 – 11:50 a.m.

Note: The Florida Department of Education has confirmed that results from the Florida Standards Assessments are not expected prior to the end of the 2014-2015 school year for grade 3 students. As a result, the school district was required to identify and apply available criteria to be used in determining Grade 3 promotion decisions. M-DCPS will use results from the i-Ready 3rd Diagnostic and Stanford Achievement Test, Tenth Edition as indicators for promoting students to grade 4. In addition, all statutory good causes for promotion, such as the 3rd Grade Portfolio, will also be applied.

• Grade 8 Students (and Grade 7 students, space available)
Grade 8 students (Grade 7, based on space availability), who failed one course or are missing one course leading to promotion, will be offered Course Credit Recovery.
Programs for Grade 8 Students, with space available for Grade 7 students, run 8:35—11:35 a.m. at K-8 Centers, and 9:20 a.m.—12:20 p.m. at middle schools.

• Special Education Students
Special Education students who meet eligibility criteria may participate in available, grade appropriate summer services in accordance with their Individualized Educational Plan, inclusive of Extended School Year. The list of open instructional summer centers for grades K-8 will be available on Friday, May 22, 2015, online at http://summerschool.dadeschools.net/implementation_doc.asp.

• High School Students
