Miami-Dade County Public Schools will convene its annual Safe Communities/Safe Schools Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at Miami Edison Middle School, 6101 N.W. 2 Ave. This year's theme is "Promoting Nonviolence in Schools."

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bernard Lafayette, a national expert and practitioner in nonviolence training. Participants will also have the opportunity to examine programs, activities, strategies and new initiatives in violence prevention and intervention.
