SCHOLARSHIP SATURDAY TO HELP
NEEDY KIDS GO TO COLLEGE

Businesses, local amateur sports teams and athletes, and interested
citizens can participate in "Scholarship Saturday" events to raise
funds for deserving public high school students who otherwise could
not afford to go to college. Proceeds from athletic events benefit
the College Assistance Program
Sports competitions for the entire community include:
Saturday, March 13:
A bowling tournament at Cloverleaf Lanes. Team trophies (f~rst
place and runnerup) in novice and handicap (for those with
established averages) divisions. The entry fee is $75 per team. To

Saturday, March 20:
A dominoes tournament, with corporate partner Humana, at the
Blue Banguet Halls' 995 S.W. 86 Ct. The entry fee is $25 per person.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place. For more

Saturday, March 27:
A golf tournament at the Country Club of Miami Golf Course
with corporate partner Gallagher Companies. Prizes for f~rst place,
longest drive, and closest to the pin. Entry fee is $50 per person.

Saturday, April 17:
A tennis tournament at the International Tennis Center
(Lipton-Key Biscayne). Men's, women's and wheelchair divisions will
play a doubles only format. Partners will change every six games with
the top four players receiving trophies. The entry fee is $30 per

Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation donated the use of courts for
this tournament.
Saturday, April 24:
A 5-K Run/Walk at Tamiami Park with corporate partner Humana.
Age divisions for both men and women. Commemorative awards will be
presented in a variety of race categories. Entry fees are $15 for
adults and $6 for students, with an $ l8 late fee after April 20. To

UNITEDhealthcare of Florida also is a major contributor and corporate
sponsor of the All-star Student Basketball tournament scheduled for
7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, at Miami Springs Senior High School.
A north Miami-Dade County public schools squad (comprised of boys and
girls) will compete against a similarly comprised squad from south
Miami-Dade County. Tickets will be on sale at the door.
There also will be a region and an open softball tournament for
Miami-Dade County Public Schools employees on Saturday, February 20
and Sunday, March 7, respectively. Both events begin at 8:30 a.m. at
Tropical Park. Corporate partners are HIP Health Plan and Oral Health
Services of Florida.
