The Miami-Dade school district will hold its annual SECME (Science Engineering Communication Mathematics Enhancement) District Olympiad on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Miami Carol City Senior High, 3422 NW 187 St., Opa-locka.

Some 50 schools have entered the competition's nine events, which encourages students, especially minorities, to pursue careers the sciences.

Presented by the Division of USI Mathematics and Science, SECME offers students hands-on math and science experience. Students design, build and test a variety of engineering projects throughout the year.
