Murals painted by South Miami Senior High's art magnet students will
be unveiled at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the grand opening of Neat
Stuff, a nonprofit, volunteer-run store that provides new clothes,
shoes and toys to abused, neglected and abandoned children. The store
is located at 2624 N.W. 21 Terr.
Giving up weekends and holidays, the students designed and painted
more than 140 feet of bare walls at the 3000-square-foot facility.
The artwork creates a bright and appealing atmosphere for the
children, many of whom only have the clothes on their backs when they
are rescued by the Department of Children and Families. The
child-friendly store also plans to serve other agencies helping
disadvantaged children in Miami-Dade County.
Providing foster kids with something they can call their own
helps to rebuild their self-esteem during a very difficult
time, said Phyllis Krug, president and founder of Neat Stuff.
For further information, contact Krug at 305-253-1533, or Jennifer
Roth at 305-666-5871, ext. 210.
