SEVEN FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools' most outstanding teacher will be named at the annual Francisco R. Walker Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Radisson Mart Plaza Hotel/Convention Center, 711 N.W. 72 Ave.

Seven finalists have been nominated from the system's six administrative regions and its Bureau of Adult/Vocational, Alternative Education & Dropout Prevention.

The region or office represented, the nominees, the grades or subjects they teach, and the schools are as follows:

• Region I, Dr. Katherine D. Kourapis, Pre-K Exceptional Student Education, North Twin Lakes Elementary School, 625 W. 74 Place, Hialeah;
  
  
• Region II, Rebecca Dash Geller, Honors/Gifted Geometry Mathematics Education, North Miami Beach Senior High School, 1247 N.E. 167 St., North Miami Beach;
  
  
• Region III, Brett W. Fankhauser, Physical Education, Floral Heights Elementary School, 5120 N.W. 24 Ave., Miami;
  
  
• Region IV, George E. Roller, English II - Grade 10, Coral Gables Senior High School, 450 Bird Rd., Coral Gables;
  
  
• Region V, Patricia JoAnn Cohen, Reading and Language Arts - Grade 2, Wesley Matthews Elementary School, 12345 S.W. 18 Terr., Miami;
  
  
• Region VI, Lois Kaplan Seaman, Language Arts I - Grade 6, Richmond Heights Middle School, 15015 S.W. 103 Ave., Miami;
  
  
• Bureau of Adult/Vocational, Alternative Education & Dropout Prevention, Alfreida D. Joseph-Goins, Anatomy and Physiology/Physical Science Physics, Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center, 10225 S.W. 147 Terr., Miami.
