Miami-Dade County Public Schools named Patricia JoAnn Cohen, a
reading and language arts teacher at Wesley Matthews Elementary
School, as its Francisco R. Walker Golden Apple Teacher of the Year
at an award ceremony held last night at the Radisson Mart Plaza
Hotel. Cohen received $7,000 and $2,000 for her school.
Lois Kaplan Seaman, a language arts teacher at Richmond Heights
Middle School, received $2,500 as runner-up. Five finalists each
received $1,500. They are Dr. Katherine D. Kourapis of North Twin
Lakes Elementary School, Rebecca Dash Geller of North Miami Beach
Senior High School, Brett W. Fankhauser of Floral Heights Elementary
School, George E. Roller of Coral Gables Senior High School, and
Alfreida D. Joseph-Goins of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center. For more
