More than 1,000 students from schools around Miami-Dade County will
attend a United Nations Day celebration on Friday, Oct. 22, at Miami
Edison Middle School, 6101 N.W. 2 Ave.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a welcome by principal Ron Majors

Leon of the United Nations. They will be followed by an address by
Dr. Mohammed K. Farouk of the Global Awareness Program at Florida
International University, who chairs the school district's Advisory
Committee for Multicultural Programs.
A parade of flags will precede ethnic musical and dance performances
by students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, who come from 166
different nations.
In recognition of the United Nations declaration that 1999 is the
International Year of Older Persons, a group of elders from the
community have been invited to the event as guests of honor.
