Miami-Dade County Public Schools will unveil Southside Elementary Museums Magnet School’s GOB Project completed by Wolfberg Alvarez Architects and construction manager Thornton Construction, which had 63.5 percent in Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation in construction and 20 percent in construction management.

The school, built in 1914, is the second oldest public school building in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and had a total bond investment of $3.8 million.  The school received a complete historic restoration of Building 1 including renovation of all classrooms and restrooms; new windows, doors, flooring and ceilings throughout; exterior and interior painting; new HVAC, fire and intrusion alarms, P/A, clocks, staircase and roofing improvements and classroom technology upgrades throughout.

The school bond projects resulted from voter approval of the $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond. The bond is being used to modernize and construct school buildings throughout the District, expand student capacity, enhance facility safety, and provide technology upgrades at all schools.
