Two Southwest Miami Senior High School automotive-technology students
placed second in the Ford AAA Automotive Hands-on Repair Skills
Contest last month at Ocala's Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing.
Twelfth-graders Raymond Reyes and Adrian Sixto won scholarships of
$17,500 each and prizes.
Contestants were required to diagnose and repair a 2000 Ford Taurus.
The Southwest team was coached by teachers Tracy Hoppe and Nestor
Yero and sponsored by Coral Gables Lincoln Mercury. Southwest
alumnus Jorge Sanchez, a Ford Master Tech and former first-place
winner of the contest, mentored the students.
For more information, contact Southwest's automotive-technologies
program at 305-274-0181, extension 265.
