Tim Hardaway of the Miami Heat will learn a new sport Friday, when a
fifth grade girl teaches him the game that won her a national
contest
sponsored by Gatorade Thirst Quencher in cooperation with Sports
Illustrated for Kids.
The star player's 10 a.m. appearance at Fairlawn Elementary School,
444 S.W.60 Ave., is part of the prize won by Gina Bretos, the
11-year-old inventor of the game. She will teach Hardaway and a group
of her fellow fifth graders how to play "Gina's Game," which is like
baseball but played with a tennis ball and racket. Hardaway, a lanky
sixfooter, will bethe designated pitcher for each team.
Another part of the prize package, along with $200 in sports
equipment, is a set of Gatorade baseball caps and T-shirts for the
student participants in the game.
Open to more than four million students in schools throughout
America, the S.W.E.A.T. ("Students Winning Through Exercise, Attitude
and Training") Sports Challenge required students to develop a unique
game that involves exercise skills, cooperation, and a healthy
lifestyle.
For more information, contact the school's principal, Maria Llerena,
