February 9, 2000

Lois Magnus, a teacher at Madison Middle School, will receive the Norma Bossard Award during a ceremony on Friday, Feb. 11, from 8:30-9 a.m., at Miami-Dade Community College's Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. 2 Ave.

Sponsored by the district's Division of Language Arts/Reading and the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment, the award is named in honor of the late Norma B. Bossard, who headed the district's language arts and reading programs until her death last June. It was her dream to put a book in every child's hand so not only would they learn to read, but also love to read.

Magnus, who will receive a $500 award from the Melissa Institute, exemplifies Ms. Bossard's commitment to children, dedication to literacy, and actions that support the motto, “A book in every child's hands.”

For further information, contact Dr. Alicia Moreyra, Division of Language Arts and Reading, at 305-995-1914.
