THREE M-DCPS STUDENTS NAMED SEMIFINALISTS IN SCIENCE COMPETITION

Three Miami-Dade County Public School students were named semifinalists in the prestigious Siemens Westinghouse Competition out of 980 entries. The competition challenges the most gifted students in the country through science research. There were 15 semifinalists from Florida.

Nicole Goldstein and Jennifer Ledon represent Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School. Goldstein's research project was Selective Photocatalysis of Dimethylnaphthalene by Means of þ-Cyclodextrin Molecular Recognition Sites. Ledon's project was Neurochemical and Behavioral Effects of Nicotene and Cocaine in Adolescent and Adult rats.

Manuel Rivas, a student at Miami Coral Park Senior High School, researched Identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Small Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein Polypeptide N (SNRPN) Gene (PWS gene).
