TWIN LAKES ELEMENTARY TEACHER WINS UNITED WAY FUND-RAISING PRIZE

Her efforts led the school to surpass its fund-raising goal by 631 percent

December 15, 2003

Twin Lakes Elementary School teacher Annette Napoles has won two first-class tickets on United Airlines to the destination of her choice in a United Way contest for schools that met their fund-raising goals.

Napoles, who is the school's United Way Student Ambassador for the 2003-2004 school year, established a number of activities. The most popular was the "Pie in the Face" contest, which resulted in the school surpassing its $662 goal by 631 percent, collecting $4,181.54 instead.

"When our teachers show the level of dedication and enthusiasm that Ms. Napoles did to motivate her school to raise funds for the United Way," said Superintendent of Schools Merrett R. Stierheim, "it has a ripple effect that reaches far into our community. Ms. Napoles, Principal Maria de Leon and all the staff and students at Twin Lakes are to be commended for their spirit of goodwill."

Because the school met its goal, Napoles' name was included in the United Way raffle. She intends to use her tickets for her honeymoon next year.
