MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS CELEBRATES VICTORY DAY AT BAYFRONT PARK

December 5, 2003

Approximately 20,000 Miami-Dade County Public Schools students are expected to participate in the Victory Day Youth March for Life on Saturday, Dec. 6. The pep rally and march begins 9 a.m. in the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, 111 NW 1st Street, and ends at Bayfront Park.

The students' participation in the rally culminates a week filled with events and activities commemorating AIDS Awareness Week in schools throughout the county.

"We are committed to educating our students about HIV and AIDS," said Superintendent of Schools Merrett R. Stierheim. "It is of great importance that they have the knowledge to protect themselves from getting this disease and the compassion to share with those who do."

The day's activities include AIDS education, rides, games and performances by musicians and high school bands.
