AMERICAN SENIOR HIGH
IDENTIFIED AS MODEL SCHOOL IN THE STATE
May 23, 2001
On May 16, American Senior High School was selected as a
model high school in the state of Florida by The Task Force
on Public School Funding. Created by the Florida
Legislature, the Task Force requested from Management
Analysis and Planning, Inc. a study of high performing
schools that serve a high percentage of disadvantaged
students.
Using data provided by Florida's Department of Education, it
was determined that "American Senior High School was
overachieving in spite of inherent socioeconomic issues,"
according to Alberto Rodriguez, the school's principal.
Approximately 94 percent of the school's population consists
of low income students.
