MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS LAUNCHES
FIRST APPLE WEB DESIGN ACADEMIES IN THE COUNTRY

August 13, 2001

In September, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will launch the first Apple Web Design Academy program in the country. Developed in partnership with Apple Computer, the program will provide high school students with the skills needed to join the Internet workforce as entry-level designers, project managers and HTML programmers.

Each year of this two-year program will conclude with a nationally recognized certification examination and a portfolio of professional-level websites for community organizations.

In response to the needs of the community, M-DCPS is preparing students for highly, competitive information technology jobs by providing them with training and opportunities to receive industry certification. Currently, high school students enrolled in the Business Systems and Technology course will take Microsoft Office Users Specialist tests in Word and Excel. Additionally, there are 22 schools offering Cisco Certified Network Associate certification; eight offering Oracle Certified Professional; and nine offering Network+ and A+.

At the postsecondary level, M-DCPS also offers training in A+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco Certified Network Associate, Certified Novell Administrator, Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD), and Network+.
