M-DCPS' ADVANCED PLACEMENT TEST-TAKING POPULATION RISES

August 28, 2001

Recent statistics from Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Advanced Placement Program show a 12 percent increase in students taking Advanced Placement Exams in 2001. Approximately 14,000 examinations at 37 school sites were administered and almost 50 percent of the students tested were awarded scores acceptable by most colleges and universities.

Advanced Placement courses provide a college experience to students while they are still in high school. The school district emphasizes access to Advanced Placement courses for all students as opposed to limiting participation to only the most academically talented students.
