MAGAZINE CREDITS PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR MAKING MIAMI
ONE OF COUNTRY’S ‘TOP 10 BEST CITIES FOR FAMILIES’

Miami-Dade County's public schools were an important factor in Miami being chosen fourth among the top 10 best cities for families, according to the April issue of Child magazine.

Other facts about Miami-Dade County Public Schools the magazine noted:

  • Offers the nation's largest magnet-school program with 78 fields of study, including the new additions of mechanical engineering, commercial art and biomedicine.

  • Raised standardized-reading test scores for second-graders by 13 points from 1999-2000.

  • Reduced crime by 40 percent since 1993 due to community cooperation and after-school programs.

The magazine surveyed the education, physicians and cultural and physical environments of 100 U.S. cities for this study.
