The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CLCs) enhance the
after-school and evening programs at Booker T. Washington Senior High
and Community School, and Miami Jackson Adult and Community Education
Center in partnership with Fienberg Fisher Adult and Community
Education Center.
Working in close cooperation with community organizations and other
educational and youth development agencies, CLCs provide expanded
learning opportunities outside regular school hours in a safe healthy
environment for children.
Parents at Fienberg/Fisher are involved in unique programs as full
partners in their children's learning. These programs have been
designed to meet the needs of a diverse, economically
underprivileged, highly transient population with limited
English-speaking skills.
Weekly parent empowerment meetings at Miami Jackson provide
additional resources to a network of community agencies. Nestled in
the low-income and ethnically diverse population of Allapattah,
strong emphasis is placed on tutoring, literacy, career planning,
employability skills and parental involvement.
Booker T. Washington offers academic, sports, and cultural enrichment
programs, which are designed to fit the needs of the community. At
Little River Elementary School, the Miami Heat helps students
participating in the HEAT Academy to achieve a quality education. The
Academy provides an after-school academic program for students in
kindergarten through sixth grade. Since its inception, the Academy
has dealt with critical issues such as discipline, attendance,
homework, student retention, population, academic achievement and
parental support.
