CORAL REEF FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT HAITIAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY

November 19, 2001

Coral Reef Senior High School's Fill the Void Service Club is collecting nonperishable food items to assist South Dade's Haitian-American community at Thanksgiving.

The food drive was organized by two of the school's International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Diploma candidates, Kristina Mirabeau-Beale and Christina Gaymont, club president. They cited the hardship of Haitian-Americans who work in the tourism industry and have lost work because of cutbacks since the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.
Donations may be dropped off at the school's I.B. office, 10101 S.W. 152 St., through noon on Nov. 21. The South Dade Haitian United Coalition will distribute the food to families in need. For more information, contact Luz-Helena Barrero, at 305-232-2044, ext. 169.
