MIAMI-DADE ADULT SCHOOLS OPEN TONIGHT; PREK-12 SCHOOLS TO REOPEN TOMORROW

November 5, 2001
Released: Noon

With the threat of Hurricane Michelle past, Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Merrett R. Stierheim will roll back a state of emergency effective 3 p.m. today. As a result:

  • All adult and vocational schools will open as usual this afternoon and evening, with students and employees reporting as normal.

  • All employees whose shifts regularly start after 3 p.m. today should report to work as normal.

  • All day schools will reopen tomorrow.

Students and parents with questions should call their principals; employees should call their supervisors.

Stierheim had suspended all public school activities under a state of emergency from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today but lifted the order effective 3 p.m.

"With the weather improved and school buildings in good shape, it is time to resume the business of education," Stierheim said.
