JACKSON SENIOR HIGH COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER TO HOLD BANQUET, JUNE 11

June 7, 2001

The Miami Jackson Senior High School 21st Century Community Learning Center will hold a banquet to celebrate the end of the school year at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at the school, 1751 N.W. 36 Street. Parents and students who have participated in this after-school program will be recognized for their dedication and outstanding service to the center.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center is a community-wide, neighborhood- and school-based effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and operated by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Now in its third year of operation, the 21st Century Community Learning Center has resulted in increased academic performance and a decreased dropout rate and has been instrumental in assisting parents in becoming involved in their children's education.

Community Learning Centers use a holistic approach in an attempt to bring schools and families together. The success of this program is predicated on the importance of community networks and family support.
