HONORED BY FLORIDA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION

The Florida School Boards Association has honored Miami-Dade County School Board Member Betsy H. Kaplan with its President's Award.

The award is presented annually to an individual "who has made outstanding and significant contributions to education and the Florida School Boards Association at both the state and local levels."

A member of the Miami-Dade school board, the executive committee of the state school boards association, and the National School Boards Association since 1988, Kaplan has been involved in public education since joining the Palmetto Elementary School PTA in 1962.

The former teacher at Miami Shores Elementary School and Miami-Dade Community College has held numerous leadership positions in educational organizations, such as vice president of the Dade County Child Development Services Board and PTA president for Dade and Monroe counties.

In 1977 Kaplan was named "Person of the Year" by the University of Miami chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. For more information, call Marjorie Okasako at 305-995-2795.
