M-DCPS STUDENTS RESPOND TO NATIONAL TRAGEDIES

Several events have been planned by Miami-Dade County Public Schools students in response to the national tragedies that occurred on September 11th.

Milena Libertad, a student at Jose Marti Middle School and recording artist, will perform in concert on October 5th at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium, 5701 W. 24 Avenue, Hialeah. Tickets are $3 and are being sold by the school's PTSA.

On October 8th at 9:15 a.m., a tree-planting ceremony will be held at Lawton Chiles Middle School, 8190 N.W. 197 St., Hialeah, to honor victims of the tragedies. Local firefighters and police officers also will be honored for their service.

Students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Elementary School, 11901 S.W. 2 St., will present a concert of patriotic and inspirational music titled "Freedom Stands" on October 11th at 7 p.m. at the school. Included will be an original song written by faculty members especially for the event. Tickets are $4, and proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross relief effort.

The visual and performing arts clubs of Coral Reef Senior High School, 10101 S.W. 152 St., will give a joint performance on October 17th at 7:30 p.m. Musicians, dancers and artists will contribute their talents to raise money for the "Families of Freedom" Scholarship Fund. Tickets for the program, "United through the Arts," are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
