TWO MIAMI-DADE SCHOOLS POLICE OFFICERS GRADUATE FROM SOUTHERN POLICE INSTITUTE

Capt. Amie Weatherington and Lt. Gerald Kitchell of the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department have been recognized by the Miami-Dade County School Board for being the department's first two officers to graduate from the prestigious Southern Police Institute.

The 12-week administrative officers course at the institute, which is associated with the University of Louisville, is consistently ranked among the top law enforcement educational training programs in the nation.

Weatherington, who has served with the school's police department for 19 years, has a bachelor's degree in urban planning from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was captain of its national championship football team in 1977. Born in Miami. Weatherington is a graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

Kitchell, who has served with the school's police department for 10 years, has an associate's degree from Miami-Dade County Community College and is in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree from St. Thomas University. Born in Miami) Kitchell is a graduate of Miami Killian Senior High School.
