SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM OFFERED BY ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS

June 14, 2001

Several schools and alternative centers have been added to the June 5 list of public schools sponsoring the Food Service Summer Program for Children.

The additional elementary schools are Dunbar, Graham, Greynolds Park and Stirrup. The alternative centers are Aspira, Miami Art Museum, Mater Center (Central and Riverside), New Jerusalem Baptist, Resource Center, Rosa Parks (Overtown), and South Hialeah Camp.

Similar to the National School Lunch Program, the Food Service Summer Program provides nutritionally balanced meals to children regardless of race, color, sex, handicap, age or national origin. All children 18 years and younger in eligible schools are provided lunch and breakfast at no charge.

The programs are approved for geographical areas of need, or where half of the students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year. Neighborhood schools have details on eligibility.

Many elementary and middle public schools in Miami-Dade County will be open July 9-August 3. Senior high schools will be open July 9-August 17.
