THOUSANDS OF MIAMI-DADE STUDENTS TO JOIN IN 9/11 COMMEMORATION

September 6, 2002

A community-wide moment of silence and a 410,000-voice chorus of "God Bless America" will highlight the Miami-Dade school system's commemoration next Wednesday of last year's September 11 terrorist attacks.

The event's centerpiece will be an 11 a.m. ceremony outside school system headquarters, 1450 N.E. 2 Ave. The ceremony will be transmitted live via closed-circuit TV to classrooms across the county, allowing students and employees in schools to participate.

Some 1,000 students, employees and community leaders are expected to attend the outdoor ceremony, on Northeast 15th Street between First and Second avenues.

The event will feature tributes to the attacks'victims; local police, firefighters and volunteers who helped in the search and rescue effort; and Miami-Dade alumni fighting in the U.S. military's war on terror.
