Themed as "An Olympics of the Mind," ACT-SO is a year-long

and encourage African-American high school students. The
competition promotes excellence by recognizing and
celebrating students' high academic and cultural
achievements. Categories include natural and physical

business/finance/economics via entrepreneurship.
ACT-SO provides a national forum for a learning experience
in which scholarships and prizes are awarded and students
develop new skills.
Founded in 1978 by renowned author and journalist Vernon
Jarrett, ACT-SO is a major youth initiative of the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Since the inception of ACT-SO 25 years ago, Miami-Dade has
won 47 national medals, more than any other single school
