Below is a summary of decisions rendered today by the Miami-Dade County School Board at its special meeting. For more information, please contact Mayco Villafaña or John Schuster at 305-995-4638.

What the School Board approved at its June 6, 2002 Special Meeting

1. The School Board reaffirmed its earlier vote regarding the two-day pay cut. In other words, the two-day pay cut stands. This means that all employees earning more than $20,000 annually will be giving back about $13 million in fiscal year 2001-2002.

2. The School Board voted to authorize the Superintendent to negotiate granting employees affected by the two-day pay cut, two days off during the remainder of the 2001-2002 fiscal year. Teachers will have a caveat that they will be able to carry over at least one day out of the two as time off during fiscal year 2002-2003.

3. The School Board authorized the Superintendent to negotiate with the unions the restoration of the two-day pay cut provided it is prospective in its implementation. The superintendent must negotiate the method and manner of the restoration and report back to the School Board.
