VOLVO OCEAN RACE 5K WALK/RUN/ROLLERBLADE® TO BENEFIT COLLEGE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

March 21, 2002

A 5K walk/run/Rollerblade® contest will be held to benefit the College Assistance Program of Dade County, Inc. (CAP, Inc.) and the Miami Beach Police Athletic League on Sunday, April 14, 7:30 a.m., at South Pointe Park in Miami Beach. The event is being held in conjunction with the Volvo Ocean Race Round the World 2001-2002, an international sailing competition that will resume from our waters after the completion of the 5K.

Preregistration fees for the 5K are $15 for adults and $6 for students. After April 10, registration fees are $18 for everyone.

Awards are given to the top three in each age group, with special competitive categories for school faculties, school teams, race walkers, the physically challenged, police and law enforcement officers and firefighters. All registered participants will receive T-shirts.

For more than a decade Miami-Dade County Public Schools' (M-DCPS) students and employees have contributed more than $4.1 million to CAP, Inc. through fund-raisers they have planned or joined. CAP, Inc. provides scholarship grants to help some of M-DCPS' most needy and deserving students attend college.

For 5K entry applications, contact Dr. Jayne Greenberg at 305-995-1963. For information about the College Assistance Program, contact Phyllis Hallberg at 305-995-1743.
