STUDENTS CAN EXPLORE ARRAY OF PROGRAM CHOICES AT M-DCPS CAREER & MAGNET EXPO, DEC. 14

November 12, 2002

Thousands of students and their families will have an opportunity to explore the many choices in courses and programs the school system offers to help students prepare for future employment and higher education at its upcoming Career & Magnet Expo.

A joint Miami-Dade County Public Schools/Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition partnership, the expo is set for Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the fair’s Arnold Hall, Coral Way and SW 112 Ave.

While geared toward helping eighth- and ninth-grade students and their parents select high school level career courses and programs, the expo will offer beneficial information for students at all grade levels, including adult students, with exhibits by the school system's 78 magnet programs and 65 career academies. Local businesses will have exhibits as well with information about job opportunities for M-DCPS graduates.

Highlights include a computer career center, counseling center, practice job interviews and information sessions. Student performances and on-site child-care services also will be provided.

“It's never too early to help our students plan their futures,” said Superintendent of Schools Merrett R. Stierheim. "The school system offers so many school-to-career programs, and the students and parents who attend the expo will have an exceptional opportunity to learn about the educational choices available. The event is truly a school system showcase."

Admission to the expo is free. For more information call 305-603-0641.
