STUDENT CYBERNAUTS TO PARTICIPATE IN WORLDLINK VIDEOCONFERENCE

May 8, 2002

Students from North Miami Beach Senior High School's Beam Academy will videoconference via the Internet with students from Escuela Cangallo in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Friday, May 10th from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. The students plan to sign the first WorldLink Cyber-School Agreement to promote cyber-class projects between the two countries.

The Miami students will use Internet facilities at Miami-Dade County Public School's Division of Instructional Technology, 1500 Biscayne Blvd., Room 337. The Argentine students will be hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires.

Special guests for the signing include representatives from the U.S. Embassy's Cultural Affairs Office in Buenos Aires, the Cultural Attaché from the Argentina Consulate in Miami, Miami-Dade County School Board Vice-Chair and Honorary WorldLink Chair Michael M. Krop, and WorldLink Founder and Director Sondra Snowdon.

The cyber-school signing will start students working on developing a bilingual online newsletter between the schools at the WorldLinkonline.com website. They will test new media technology for distance learning in cyberspace. Cybernauts will write articles focusing on global issues such as interactive technology, international trade (FTAA) and science and environmental concerns. The project's goal is to foster cultural understanding and enhance students' language skills for entering the global marketplace.

WorldLink sponsors include The Office of Mayor Alex Penelas, The Aventura Marketing Council and Nova Southeastern University Fischler Graduate School. WorldLink, now in its third year, continues to connect students from around the world for cross-cultural exchanges in cyberspace and beyond.
