M-DCPS HONORS ITS CORPORATE AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Miami-Dade County Public Schools honored its corporate and community partners this week at the annual Dade Partners Exemplary Awards ceremony luncheon. Ten winners were chosen in nine categories for their outstanding contributions to schools and students. The categories, winners and nominators are as follows:

  • Small Profit: Washington Mutual Bank, nominated by Lakes Stevens Middle

  • Mid-Range Profit: Duhaney Pontiac Buick GMC, nominated by Barbara Goleman Senior High

        McDonald's Restaurant of Little Havana, nominated by Shenandoah Elementary

  • Large Profit: First Union National Bank of Florida, nominated by Ethel Koger Beckham Elementary

  • Non-profit: City of North Miami Parks and Recreation, self-nominated

  • Joint Venture: Citibank, Team-Metro, Union Transport International and West Dade Federation of Homeowner Associations, nominated by Doral Middle

  • County Wide: Adopt-A-Classroom, nominated by Fienberg-Fisher Elementary Community School

  • Office of Alternative, Vocational Adult Educational and Dropout Prevention: Calder Race Course, nominated by Robert Renick Education Center

  • Newcomer: READ WRITE NOW! Hadassah of Greater Miami, nominated by Sylvania Heights Elementary

  • Community Leader: Elaine Adler, nominated by Highland Oaks Middle and Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High

The school system has one of the largest and most renowned business partnership programs in the country. Businesses become Dade Partners in Education by adopting schools, donating personnel and financial resources, or participating in special events and projects requiring specialized expertise.

"The success of our Dade Partners program is further proof of the importance of business involvement with our schools," said Schools Superintendent Merrett R. Stierheim. "This only adds credence to the district's recent partnership with the Florida Sterling Council to help improve our management and business operations."
