MIAMI-DADE HIGH SCHOOL FEATURED IN FLORIDA TREND

April 5, 2002

The School for Advanced Studies, a Miami-Dade County public high school, once again has been recognized as one of the best in the nation.

Two years ago Newsweek magazine ranked the school 67th out of 22,500 high schools in the nation. Last month Florida Trend magazine devoted an entire page to the school. The article is listed online in the Miami-Dade section, titled “Two Degrees, No Separation,”
www.fltrend.com/issue/default.asp?a=4557&s=3&d=3/1/2002.

Founded in 1987, the School for Advanced Studies was Florida's first dual-enrollment program. The Florida Trend article notes that on average, about 60 percent of its students receive their Associate of Arts degrees from Miami-Dade Community College when they graduate from high school, and 100 percent of the school's 200 seniors are awarded some form of financial aid for their remaining years of college.

"Upon graduation, students routinely transfer to some of the nation's most elite schools, including Harvard, Cornell and MIT," the article notes.

The School for Advanced Studies is located on the north, south and Wolfson (downtown Miami) campuses of Miami-Dade Community College. For more information, contact its principal, Dr. Melissa Patrylo, at 305-237-1089.
