February 22, 2002

Three Miami-Dade County Public Schools students are among the 34 members of the 2002 GRAMMY High School Jazz Ensemble, which convenes in Los Angeles, February 19-28, to coincide with the 44th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

Jesse Boykins III, a tenor singer, and Brandon Madden, a bass singer, are seniors at American Senior High School. Fabian Almazan, a percussionist, is a senior at New World School of the Arts.

The GRAMMY High School Jazz Ensembles program identifies, selects and rewards the accomplishments of talented high school musicians. During their exciting all-expenses-paid trip, students from all over North America will perform for GRAMMY nominees, participate in master classes, perform at renowned jazz clubs and attend the 44th Annual GRAMMY Awards. As part of this exciting educational program, many students also are eligible for college scholarships.

The GRAMMY® Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Recording Academy, brings national attention to important issues such as the value of music and arts education and preserving the rich cultural legacy for future generations. Through its nationwide efforts, the Foundation has made great inroads by opening up new opportunities in education for students.
