PRESS CONFERENCE TO LAUNCH HEALTH INITIATIVE, FEB. 1

A press conference will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 at North Miami Beach Senior High School to launch the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation School Health Initiative. The school is located at 1247 N.E. 167 St., North Miami Beach.

A $6.25 million grant from the foundation will be used to provide health services to students. The project will establish and staff full-scale primary care clinics at the five schools in the North Miami Beach feeder pattern. They are Sabal Palm, Fulford and Greynolds Park elementary schools; John F. Kennedy Middle School and North Miami Beach Senior High School.

The clinics will provide the schools with comprehensive primary health care, wellness education and support services. Mental health services, vision and dental screenings and referrals also will be offered to all students regardless of their ability to pay.

Scheduled to speak at the press conference are Dr. John Clarkson, senior vice president for medical affairs and dean, University of Miami School of Medicine; Dr. George Mekras, chairman, Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation; Kim Greene, executive director, Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation; and Dr. Michael M. Krop, vice chair, Miami-Dade County School Board.
