M-DCPS PRINCIPAL WINS STATE LEADERSHIP AWARD

June 28, 2002

Dr. Frederick A. Morley, principal of Charles R. Drew Elementary School, has been presented with the 2002 ACE Leadership Award for School Administrator at the recent Arts for a Complete Education (ACE) Summer Leadership Conference in Orlando. The award was presented by Florida Secretary of Education Jim Horne.

The first Principal of the Year in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Morley's emphasis on arts in education to motivate, improve and reward student achievement has been the hallmark of his long and distinguished career at Drew Elementary.

Charles R. Drew Elementary was the first school in the district to implement a talent magnet program in 1973. That program grew dramatically under Morley's leadership and commitment to the arts.

Through a grant, Morley secured a Full-Service School Program, which affords students medical and social services in addition to the well-rounded arts focused education that provides quality instruction in drama, dance, music and visual art.
