PRINCIPAL, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR HONORED

Miami-Dade County Public Schools honored its principal and assistant principal of the year at a ceremony last night at the Radisson Deauville Resort on Miami Beach.

Palm Springs North Elementary School Principal Dawn R. Hurns was named principal of the year. Hurns, who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Miami, received a $5,000 award.

The runner-up was MAST Academy Principal Consuelo V. Dominguez, an alumna of Mary Grove College in Detroit and currently enrolled in Nova University's doctorate program.

The assistant principal of the year was Debra Dubin of Parkview Elementary School. Dubin, who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University, received a $2,500 award.

The runner-up was Ernest R Graham Elementary School Assistant Principal Tonya Dillard, who earned her bachelor's degree at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee and a master's from Nova Southeastern University.
The winners were chosen from nominees representing each region and the Bureau of Adult/Vocational, Alternative and Dropout Prevention Programs. The event is sponsored by First Union and United Way of Miami-Dade.
