M-DCPS ARTS STUDENTS RECEIVE PRESIDENTIAL
SCHOLARSHIPS

Two Miami-Dade County Public Schools arts students have been
named 2002 Presidential Scholars in the Arts. Hilary Jacks,
a painter from New World School of the Arts, and Amber
Ricke, a photographer from Miami Palmetto Senior High School
were selected from among 6,300 high school seniors
nationwide. Hilary and Amber will travel to Washington, D.C.
the last week of June to attend a performance at the Kennedy
Center, exhibit their works at George Washington University,
and receive the Presidential Medallion from President Bush
at the White House.
Additionally, 34 M-DCPS students received national
recognition from the 2002 Arts Recognition and Talent Search
program. Each received from $100 to $3000 and was eligible
for nomination as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. The
students and their schools are:
New World School of the Arts: Mariana Cardenas,
Monique C. Carreño, Diego De Alava, Reinier Gamboa,
Ruth Admire Harris, Ashley B. Hosler, Alex L. Hutchinson,
Zach Law Ingram, Hilary Catherine Jacks, Fritznie Abigail
Jarbath, Sarah Beatriz Khan, Matthew Howard Krawcheck,
Daniel Jacob List, Cathy Chih Lu, Kate Leigh Mauldin,
