Four Miami-Dade public middle schools won the top five awards at the Project Citizen State Competition, a middle school civic education program, recently held in Tallahassee. The state champion, Hialeah Middle School, will represent Florida at the national competition in Denver next month.

Sponsored by the Center for Civic Education and the Florida Law-Related Education Association, Project Citizen has students identify a local community problem and propose an action plan designed to address the problem.
