PONCE DE LEON MIDDLE SCHOOL TO OBSERVE READ ACROSS AMERICA, MARCH 1

February 6, 2002

Students and staff at Ponce de Leon Middle Community School, 5801 August Street, Coral Gables, will celebrate Read Across America from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, March 1.

The goal of Read Across America is to have every child reading with a caring adult for at least 30 minutes. Community volunteers are enlisted to instill a love of reading in children to help them succeed in the world of work and to realize that reading is fun.

The event commemorates the 98th anniversary of Theodore Geisel's birthday. Better known by the pen name "Dr. Seuss," Geisel wrote The Cat in the Hat, and many other children's stories.

For more information, contact the school's principal, Manuel S. Garcia, at 305-661-1611.
