M-DCPS PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN READ-IN CHAIN

February 4, 2002

Today, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Miami-Dade County Public Schools students and employees throughout the district are joining over a million readers nationwide in the 13th Annual African American Read-In Chain by reading select books written by African Americans.

The goal of the Read-In is to make the celebration of African-American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month. The first African-American Read-In was sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English in 1990.
