SEVEN FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools' most outstanding teacher will be named at the annual Francisco R. Walker Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Radisson Mart Convention Center, 711 N.W. 72 Ave., Miami. Tickets for the event are $37 per person or $370 for a table of ten.

Seven finalists have been nominated from the system's six administrative regions and its Bureau of Adult/Vocational, Alternative Education & Dropout Prevention.

The region or office represented, the nominees, the grades or subjects they teach, and the schools are as follows:

  • Region I - Janet Delores Campbell, English
    Barbara Goleman Senior High, 14100 N.W. 89th Ave., Miami;

  • Region II - Maria Teresa Gonzalez, Exceptional Student Education
    Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, 1410 N.E. 215 St., Miami;

  • Region III - Marcia Alexander, History
    Rubén Darío Middle, 350 N.W. 97th Ave., Miami;

  • Region IV - Cynthia Rhodes Kinney, Exceptional Student Education
    New World School of the Arts, 25 N.E. Second St., Miami;

  • Region V - Dr. Anita Meyer Meinbach, Language Arts
    Southwood Middle, 16301 S.W. 80th Ave., Miami;

  • Region VI - Sue M. Baety, Music Education
    Hammocks Middle, 9889 Hammocks Blvd., Miami;

  • Bureau of Adult/Vocational, Alternative Education & Dropout Prevention - Lori Nazareno, Science
    School for Applied Technology, 225 N.E. 34th St., Miami.
